HUNGRY CATERPILLARS Feeding/cooking group for children with food aversions
for children with food aversions. The purpose of the group is to help children look at food in a new way. We will play with food, smell food, touch food, make arts and crafts with food, and maybe even eat food! Hungry Caterpillars will associate positive feelings with a negative trigger (food). We will also help guide parents on recipes and strategies to use with their child. The group will run for 4 consecutive days during the summer. Each group will be at lunch time from 12:00- 1:00. The group will be at lunch to help facilitate the desire to eat. We will not force the child to eat food! This is a fun experience that will lead to positive eating habits. However, the child will be more willing to take a nibble if they are hungry. Each week will have a target food that will be used in all activities. The last day of group will be our taste test so the child will be familiar with the food by then. Parents will be provided with all of our activities and recipes to carry over at home. It is important that follow through be done at home. How it works: • Parents must fill out an information sheet on each child that wishes to enroll in the group. • The cost of each group is 150.00 per week. The cost includes all food and supplies. Tuition will be due the week prior to the start date. • The groups will be facilitated by two staff either occupational therapy and or speech- language pathology.
